NTU Rugby League Scholarship Programme

Nottingham Outlaws RLFC and the Trent Rugby League Alumni Association are delighted to announce a long-term partnership with Nottingham Trent University. The aim is to deliver the first externally funded Rugby League Scholarship program within Nottingham Trent University, commencing with the 2021/22 academic year.

The program will see an elite player pathway forged between NTU Rugby League and Nottingham Outlaws RLFC. This will offer current and prospective NTU Rugby League players the chance to further develop their Rugby League, interpersonal and leadership skills alongside their studies.

The program is committed to offering two scholarships for NTU Rugby League players for the 2021/22 academic year, although plans are in place to expand the program over the coming years with the long-term aim of attracting elite collegiate Rugby League players to NTU Rugby League and Nottingham Outlaws RLFC.

Richard Johnson, Chairman of Nottingham Outlaws RLFC: “It’s fantastic to be able to announce this exciting partnership between Nottingham Outlaws, Trent Rugby League Alumni Association and Nottingham Trent University. Nottingham Outlaws were formed in 1999 by a group of NTU students and to be able to announce this official player pathway via the NTU Rugby League Scholarship program 22 years later is a huge landmark in the development of Rugby League in Nottingham.

John Yarker, President of Trent Rugby League Alumni Association “NTU Rugby League have had close links with amateur Rugby League in Nottingham for over three decades, but to have a formal partnership in place with the Outlaws now provides Rugby League players the chance to access an elite program whilst studying at Nottingham Trent. When the TRLAA was formed we had ambitions of supporting the development of the current NTU Rugby League team but to deliver something of this magnitude after only 3 years is a testament to the support of the committee and all of our members”.

Successful Rugby League Scholars will receive support throughout both the Student Rugby League and Nottingham Outlaws seasons including:

  • NTU gym membership and sports club membership
  • NTU match-day and sports scholarship kit
  • Student RL representative kit and travel bursary
  • Physiotherapy
